Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) M-9 MBE/WBE Outreach


Yonkers, NY, November 14, 2013 – Pursuant to MTA Board approval received on September 18, 2013, Kawasaki Rail Car, Inc. (Kawasaki) was awarded by the Long Island Rail Road Company (LIRR) on behalf of itself and Metro-North Commuter Railroad Company (MNCR) to design, manufacture, test, and deliver 92 Base Order M-9 Passenger Railcars.


For this M-9 Contract, MTA Department of Diversity & Civil Rights (DDCR) established a 10% MBE and 10% WBE goal, and Kawasaki is requesting proposals for MBE/WBEs certified by Empire State Development, Division of Minority and Women’s Business Development (DMWBD) and listed in the State Directory.  MBE/WBE Areas of interests for the M-9 Passenger Railcars are as follows:

    • Supply of parts (hardware, wire, cables, etc.)

    • Sheet metal fabrication

    • Parts for heating equipment

    • Cable fabrication/assembly

    • Distributor of various railcar equipments

    • Technical consultant (Manuals & Training)

    • Logistics

    • Field service (commissioning, warranty and inspection)

    • Testing equipment suppliers
