Assistant Manager Production Engineering (Job No. AM-006)

Job Description:

Plans and prepares Master Production Schedule in SAP for manufacture of rail cars, parts, subassemblies, and function test and inspection programs.  Prepares master schedule to establish the sequence and lead-time of each operation to meet shipping dates.  Researches and analyzes production specifications and plant capacity to determine manufacturing processes.  Plans, prepares, and issues parts and material schedules that anticipate and coordinate with production sequences.

 

Researches and develops manpower loading plan based on actual budget and estimated costs.  Plans and schedules workflow for each department and operation based on plant layout, staging areas, work procedures, and established manufacturing sequences and lead-times.

 

Researches, plans, and schedules manufacture of jigs, fixtures, and production aids based on requirements of production sequences.  Develops procedures for the construction of production aids and modifications of these as needed.

 

In coordination with department managers, determines status of assigned projects to follow up and improve planning and scheduling as identified above.  Conducts reviews and recommends improvements to efficiency of manufacturing operations, including maintenance of issued schedules, utilization of manpower, and operations that delay schedules or decrease operating efficiency.  Implement and operate to internal operating procedures to maintain ISO-9002 compliance.

 

Maintains the department Metrics.  Assigns and monitors daily work assignments in the P.E. department.

 

Must be able to develop appropriate business strategies aligned to KRC’s Management Policy.

 

Manage position to make best use of employees; select employees and develop their capabilities; plan for succession of key personnel; counsel employees effectively; administer discipline; handle human resource matters in accordance with company policy and procedures.

 

Establish work standards and schedules and ensure their effective implementation in the department; assign work to employees and train employees in work procedures and methods; review employees’ work for adequacy and take steps to correct inadequate performance; approve employees’ work schedules and time reports.

 

Job Specification:

At minimum, must have three to five years of experience in plant engineering or production planning.  A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience) is required.  Must have direct work experience with production processes, scheduling and shipping logistics, and facility equipment including machinery, overhead cranes, jigs, fixtures, rigging, and production aids.  Must be able to effectively supervise others.  Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
